The Raw Materials
Harris Timber utilise both green and seasoned oak depending on the customer's requirements and the nature of the building. Our oak is carefully selected for the specific application then cut here in Devon.
Using traditional construction methods the oak sections are assembled and pegged on site, allowing the oak to settle and adjust to its position in its new environment. Our site team are all experienced with the properties of oak and the need for careful preparation and construction to provide maximum durability in the oak framed product.
Oak fitting into the environment
Oak is an ideal material for blending into a wide variety of situations. This triple bay garage and office complex utilised green oak for the frame, kiln-dried oak cladding and western red cedar shingles for the roof. Although a new-build this complex integrated readily and sympathetically into the immediate environment of rural period buildings.
